| At a young age artist Lisa VanDerKarr studied winemaking in France. She was supposed to be a winemaker, yet when she was in the fourth grade her Parents took her to see the home and gardens of Claude Monet, she was hooked. "It was amazing to see the vibrant strokes of color in his work. His thick brush strokes had endless control of light that were visible down to the hair." The following year she won her first national drawing competition with a portrait of Abraham Lincoln and won a presidential award. She has gone on to become an award wining artist as well as received numerous magazine covers with her vineyard paintings and is currently in homes and corporate collections across the nation. Today Lisa captures Vineyard lifestyles, Northwest Landscapes and Lucious Florals using bold imagery that depicts the goodness of life. "People say my paintings make them feel good and happy. Guests are welcome to come into my studio and just sit and enjoy the beauty of fine art." Lisa grew-up on a California winery and traveled a lot as a kid to Europe, places like France, Italy, Switzerland to study wine and these wonderful places seem to get into her art. A simple Italian landscape can bring so much joy and easily be seen in her impressionistic painitngs. Extensive travels have lead her to finding home in North Idaho but her style is a combination of European impressionism mixed with California Plein Aire. Lisa travels to her hometown winery yearly for harvest and of course lots of photos in the vineyards. "I tell people to visit a winery, walk through the vineyards with a cup of coffee in the morning or glass of wine in the afternoon, there is a sense of romance in the air and you feel it in your spirit. If you're quiet enough, I can guarantee you will feel the bliss of nature as God planned. There really is peace in the world and somehow nature shows us this everyday" Lisa VanDerKarr was raised at Butterfly Creek Winery in the Sierra Foothills of California. Butterfly Creek is an award winning winery with over 30 years of growth and 200 acres of vines and of course the funniest guy you'll ever meet, my brother Bob, the winemaker. After graduating from the University of Santa Barbara California she started painting vineyards and hasn't stopped. She currently resideds in Sandpoint Idaho with her husband and 3 children.
